How To Stay Motivated Between Trials And The HSC

The period between trials and HSC is a crucial one! Students should use this opportunity to focus on what they need to improve on and incorporate feedback they receive from their trial exams. However, it can be hard to find the motivation to keep studying once trial exams are completed. Here are our top tips to stay motivated and get back into study:

1. When trials finish, take a break!

As controversial as this sounds, it is important to let your mind and body rest once you complete an exam period. Taking one or two weeks off study following the trial exams can help rejuvenise your mental and physical health. You may want to spend this time sleeping in, spending time with family or friends, and doing activities that you really enjoy.

2. Create a realistic study timetable

Once you have had some time to rest, you will need to create and implement a realistic study timetable. This means that you shouldn’t set yourself 8 hours of consecutive work per day, nor should you only be studying for 2 hours per day. Find a balance where you can intermittently study and complete tasks (such as practice papers) without overtiring yourself. For example, you may wish to study for 2 hours in the morning, 2 hours in the afternoon, and 2 hours in the evening.

3. Use feedback to motivate you!

Shortly after your trials, you will receive marks and written feedback from teachers. These results will show you where your strengths and weaknesses lie. Try not to be disheartened if you receive a lower mark than you expected, but use this to motivate yourself to do better in the HSC exams. Your trials are important, but they are primarily an opportunity to practice and improve for the HSC.
